The YDK (formerly Yokogawa) CMZ900 Gyro Compass is a high-performance marine gyrocompass designed to provide accurate true heading information for commercial vessels, offshore ships, and specialized marine applications. Using a high-speed, frictionless gyrosphere influenced by the Earth’s rotation and gravity, the CMZ900 continuously determines true north without relying on magnetic fields, ensuring reliable heading information under all weather and sea conditions.

The CMZ900 series is available in three configurations: CMZ900B2 for small vessels, CMZ900S as a single-gyro system for general merchant ships, and CMZ900D as a dual-gyro system providing enhanced redundancy and reliability for larger vessels. Its modular design allows the master compass to be integrated into an autopilot steering stand, reducing bridge space requirements while simplifying installation and maintenance.

The system supports manual and automatic speed error correction, backup heading input from an external heading sensor, and high-speed IEC 61162-2 serial data output for integration with navigation equipment such as ECDIS, radar, AIS, autopilot, repeater compasses, VDR, and Integrated Bridge Systems (IBS). A unique anti-vibration mechanism with high-viscosity oil provides excellent resistance to shock and vibration, while the lightweight gyrosphere ensures rapid follow-up during course changes, making it suitable for both large merchant vessels and smaller ships operating in rough seas.

The CMZ900 is type-approved in accordance with IMO gyrocompass performance standards and is recognized for its long service life, easy maintenance, and dependable performance in demanding marine environments. Its titanium gyrosphere construction, modular architecture, and flexible system configurations make it one of the most widely used gyrocompass systems in the commercial shipping industry.
