The Yokogawa Gyro Supporting Liquid (Part No. V8114ML or V8814YK) is a high-purity, specialized electrolytic fluid designed specifically for the CMZ-700 and CMZ-900 series gyrocompasses. Its primary role is to provide a low-friction, buoyant environment that allows the gyrosphere to float freely within the master compass container, ensuring precise alignment with true North.
In addition to suspension, the liquid acts as a coolant to dissipate heat from the sphere’s internal high-speed rotor and serves as a conductive path for the electrical current required to power the gyrosphere. Over time, the chemical properties of the liquid degrade, leading to increased conductivity and potential “Sphere Current High” alarms. Consequently, it must be replaced annually during regular maintenance to prevent damage to the titanium electrodes and ensure the system’s long-term reliability.
NOTE:- Always check your specific master compass model before ordering. If you are servicing a CMZ-900, ensure you also have the Defoamer V8123ZW to prevent bubble formation that can cause heading errors.
