The SKIPPER DL21 Dual Axis Doppler Sensor is an IMO-approved, MED-B Wheelmarked Doppler sensor designed exclusively for the SKIPPER DL21 Speed Log System. It provides highly accurate measurements of Speed Through Water (STW) and Speed Over Ground (SOG) using advanced dual-frequency Doppler technology, making it suitable for modern commercial vessels operating under SOLAS requirements.
The DL21 sensor combines two independent Doppler sensors in a single 100 mm transducer housing. One sensor independently measures single-axis Speed Through Water (STW), while the second measures dual-axis STW and SOG, enabling simultaneous and independent speed measurements in accordance with IMO Resolution MSC.334(90) for vessels over 50,000 GT. This integrated design reduces installation complexity while maintaining high measurement accuracy and system redundancy.
The sensor delivers real-time longitudinal and transverse vessel speed, distance travelled, and sea temperature, providing essential navigation data for ECDIS, Integrated Bridge Systems (IBS), Radar, VDR, and Autopilot systems. It supports LAN (IEC 61162-450) and NMEA 0183 (IEC 61162-1) communications, ensuring seamless integration with modern bridge equipment.
Designed for reliability in harsh marine environments, the DL21 sensor is available with several installation options, including 100 mm sea valves for single- and double-bottom hulls, steel tanks, aluminium tanks, and retrofit kits for existing installations. The sensor is fully automatic, requires minimal maintenance, and incorporates built-in diagnostics for dependable long-term operation. It is widely installed on cargo ships, tankers, LNG/LPG carriers, offshore vessels, passenger ships, and large commercial vessels requiring precise navigation and docking performance.
