The Simrad E5024 is an IMO type-approved ECDIS system engineered for commercial vessels, large passenger ships, and tankers subject to SOLAS carriage mandates. It features a modular, dual-CPU hardware architecture and a user interface designed to simplify chart management and route safety.
Core System Architecture & Features
-
Dual-Core Hardware Design: The central E5000 processor contains two independent quad-core CPUs. One CPU handles the type-approved ECDIS platform, while the second CPU runs Navico’s NSO evo2 multi-function software. This enables a secondary monitor output to run echosounders, ForwardScan™ sonar, camera feeds, or radar independently from the main chart display.
-
Paperless Setup (PLECDIS): Easily scales to a dual-station PaperLess ECDIS configuration, allowing two E5024 units to sync routes and chart licenses across a shared Marine LAN to eliminate paper chart carriage entirely.
-
Optically Bonded Display: Uses the M5024 24″ Full HD monitor featuring color calibration to IHO standards and anti-reflective, optically bonded glass to eliminate internal fogging.
-
User Interface & Control: Operated using the M570 wireless trackball unit alongside rapid-access quick tiles, drop-down menus, and drag-and-drop route waypoint editing.
