The SAAB R5 SUPREME AIS is a Class A shipborne Automatic Identification System (AIS) Transponder System designed for SOLAS vessels and advanced maritime applications. It is the fifth-generation successor to Saab’s R4 AIS platform and uses software-defined radio technology for high receiver sensitivity and reliable AIS data processing.
The system consists of the R5 SUPREME AIS Transponder, R5 SUPREME Control & Display Unit (CDU), and R5 AIS Junction Box. The transponder incorporates a VHF transceiver, 50-channel internal GPS receiver and AIS controller. It has three AIS receivers, one DSC receiver and one AIS transmitter.
