The McMurdo SmartFind E8 is a GMDSS 406 MHz Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) designed for maritime distress alerting and search-and-rescue operations. It transmits a distress signal on 406.040 MHz through the Cospas-Sarsat satellite system and provides a 121.5 MHz homing signal to assist rescue teams in locating the beacon.

The E8 is designed for commercial maritime use, with a rugged sealed construction, accidental-activation protection, high-intensity strobe.
