The McMurdo SmartFind G8 AIS is a 406 MHz GMDSS EPIRB incorporating GNSS positioning and AIS homing transmission. It transmits a distress alert through the Cospas-Sarsat satellite system and provides local AIS signals to assist rescuers in locating the beacon. The GNSS receiver supports GPS, GLONASS and Galileo, with 72-channel reception. It is available in both manual and float-free automatic-release configurations
