The Walker 7070 Mk2 is a heavy-duty, MED Wheelmark type-approved Electromagnetic (EM) Speed Log system manufactured by John Lilley & Gillie Ltd. (Walker Marine Technology) in the United Kingdom. Recommended for ocean-going commercial vessels exceeding 500 GRT or 50 meters LOA, the system accurately measures vessel Speed Through Water (STW) across forward and astern ranges from -20 to +80 knots.
The system architecture features a separate P303 stainless steel electronic processing unit located near the hull sensor and a DIN 144 P1248 bridge display indicator. This separated configuration minimizes analog sensor signal cable length, significantly reducing electromagnetic interference over long cable runs to the wheelhouse. Utilizing solid-state OLED/LED display technology, the Walker 7070 Mk2 provides digital speed and distance readings alongside standard NMEA 0183 serial and pulse outputs for radar, ECDIS, and VDR integration.
Key Features:
• MED Wheelmark Type Approved: Meets IMO SOLAS carriage requirements for speed log equipment on commercial vessels over 500 GRT.
• Extended Speed Sensing Range: Measures forward and astern Speed Through Water (STW) from -20 to +80 knots full scale.
• Remote Processing Unit Architecture: Rugged stainless-steel P303 unit sits near the hull transducer to isolate low-voltage signals from bridge interference.
• High-Visibility OLED/LED Display: DIN 144 P1248 bridge indicator with wide viewing angle, ultra-low power consumption, and variable dimmer.
• Comprehensive Hull Transducer Compatibility: Compatible with Walker fixed (P57) and retractable (P99 with GL-approved P98 sea valve) sensor assemblies.
• Integrated Testing & Calibration: Built-in speed simulator and keypad calibrator enable 4-point speed linearizing setup and diagnostic routines.
