The Furuno BR-500 is a Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) designed to monitor the presence and alertness of the Officer of the Watch (OOW). The system requires periodic acknowledgement through a reset panel, motion detector, or interfaced navigation equipment such as Radar or ECDIS.
If the watch officer fails to respond within the selected interval, the system generates progressive visual and audible alarms and subsequently alerts backup personnel and cabin locations. The BR-500 supports Manual OFF, Manual ON, and Automatic modes, with a selectable dormant period of 3 to 12 minutes. It also provides an ALR sentence output for VDR integration.
