The Lilley & Gillie Mk2020S is a premium Class A magnetic compass binnacle system designed by John Lilley & Gillie Ltd. for commercial vessels operating under SOLAS regulations. Engineered for installation on the monkey island / bridge decktop, the Mk2020S binnacle houses a high-precision Class A magnetic compass (such as the SR4) and provides direct optical reflection of the compass card down to the helm station below.
Constructed from heavy-duty glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) and non-magnetic alloy fittings, the Mk2020S withstands extreme oceanic weather, UV exposure, and saltwater spray. It features a complete set of integrated magnetic correctors—including B & C coefficients, soft iron quadrantal spheres, and a Flinders bar—ensuring precise deviation compensation for reliable, non-electronic heading reference across global magnetic zones.
Key Features:
• SOLAS & MED Wheelmark Approved: Fully compliant with IMO regulations and ISO 25862 for Class A primary steering and reflector compass systems.
• Weatherproof GRP Construction: Corrosion-free glass-reinforced plastic binnacle housing prevents rust and minimizes maintenance.
• Optical Reflector Tube: Delivers sharp, magnified reflection of the compass card down to the bridge helmsman position.
• Complete Deviation Corrector Suite: Includes adjustable B & C magnets, quadrantal soft iron spheres, HEE correction, and a Flinders bar.
• TMC Sensor Integration: Pre-configured to accept Transmit Magnetic Compass (TMC) sensors for digital NMEA 0183 heading distribution to radar, ECDIS, and autopilot.
• Dual Illumination System: Fitted with primary and emergency 24V DC dimmer-controlled lighting for night-watch navigation.
