The SKIPPER EML 224 (and its single-axis variant, the EML 124) is a compact, IMO-wheelmarked electromagnetic speed log system designed to provide accurate Speed Through Water (STW) and sea water temperature readings for commercial vessels, merchant fleets, and fishing vessels.
Because it operates using electromagnetic induction, it has no moving parts, flush-mounts with the hull (protruding only a few millimeters), and functions reliably without a minimum depth requirement starting from 0 meters.
Operating Principle
The hull-mounted sensor generates an electromagnetic field in the sea water immediately surrounding the hull. As the conductive sea water moves through this magnetic field, a small voltage potential is generated proportional to the ship’s speed. The signal electronics measure this voltage and calculate both longitudinal and transversal speeds.
