The Simrad RS100-B is a professional-grade, modular “Black Box” VHF marine radio system. Unlike fixed-mount radios with an integrated screen, the RS100-B is designed to be tucked away (usually behind the console), making it an excellent solution for modern glass bridges or vessels with limited helm space.
It is distinguished from the standard RS100 by the inclusion of an integrated Class-B AIS transceiver and a dedicated GPS-500 antenna.
-
Modular System: The “Black Box” (NRS-2) houses the radio transceiver and AIS electronics. This design allows you to keep the helm area clean while maintaining full control via remote handsets.
-
Integrated Class-B AIS: It functions as both an AIS receiver and transmitter. This means you not only see other AIS-equipped vessels on your chartplotter, but your vessel’s position is also transmitted to others, significantly improving situational awareness in crowded waters.
-
Expandable Intercom: The system supports up to eight handsets total (four wired HS100 handsets and four wireless HS40 handsets). This provides true vessel-wide communication, allowing you to use the system as an onboard intercom.
-
Audio Rewind: Includes a 60-second audio rewind feature, allowing you to replay important incoming calls if you missed a detail or were distracted.
-
Advanced Networking: It is fully integrated into the Simrad ecosystem via NMEA 2000, allowing your chartplotter to display AIS targets, manage radio backlighting groups, and even track the positions of up to five “buddies” using their MMSI numbers (Track Buddy).
