The Walker 7070 W Mk2 is an integrated marine navigation, wind, and meteorological system manufactured by John Lilley & Gillie Ltd. (Walker Marine Technology) in the United Kingdom. Building upon the type-approved Walker 7070 Mk2 Electromagnetic (EM) Speed Log, the 7070 W Mk2 consolidates Speed Through Water (STW), relative/true wind data, and atmospheric weather parameters into a unified bridge monitoring architecture suitable for commercial merchant vessels, naval ships, and offshore platforms.
The system processes inputs from Walker EM hull transducers (fixed P57 or retractable P99 with P98 sea valve), ultrasonic or mechanical masthead wind sensors, and combined weather sensor towers (measuring barometric pressure, air temperature, relative humidity, and optional seawater temperature). Utilizing the optional Walker P1066 True Wind Interface Unit, the 7070 W Mk2 calculates true wind speed and direction by processing log STW and vessel heading data. Output data is distributed across standard DIN 144 OLED bridge display indicators and transmitted via NMEA 0183 serial connections to RADAR, ECDIS, VDR, and Integrated Bridge Systems (IBS).
Key Features:
• Integrated Speed, Wind & Weather Suite: Combines EM speed log monitoring, relative/true wind tracking, and barometric/environmental weather sensing into a cohesive bridge system.
• True Wind Calculation: Integrates with the Walker P1066 module to compute true wind speed and direction using speed log STW and heading inputs.
• Comprehensive Weather Parameters: Monitors barometric pressure, pressure trend, air temperature, relative humidity, and optional seawater temperature via dedicated sensors.
• Flexible Sensor Compatibility: Operates with fixed (P57) or retractable (P99) EM hull sensors, and solid-state ultrasonic (P292/P392) or mechanical (P296) wind mastheads.
• Dedicated Modular Displays: Standard DIN 144 (144 x 144 mm) OLED/LED bridge indicators provide clear visual readouts with front-panel dimming control.
• Standard NMEA 0183 Serial Output: Generates IEC 61162-1 serial sentences ($VMVBW, $VMTWV, $WIMWV, $WIMWD, $WIXDR) for shipwide system distribution.
