The Ocean Signal ATB1 is a Class B+ AIS transceiver using SOTDMA (Self-Organising Time Division Multiple Access) technology. It is designed to improve vessel visibility and collision avoidance for leisure craft, workboats, fishing vessels, and other non-SOLAS vessels. The ATB1 transmits the vessel’s MMSI, position, COG, SOG, heading and vessel information, while receiving AIS information from surrounding vessels.
Unlike conventional 2 W CSTDMA Class B AIS units, the ATB1 provides 5 W transmission power and SOTDMA access, giving it higher transmission priority and faster reporting. Ocean Signal states that position reports can be transmitted as frequently as every 5 seconds at higher vessel speeds.
