The Walker 2050 Mk2 is a reliable, cost-effective mechanical wind speed and direction measurement system manufactured by John Lilley & Gillie Ltd. (Walker Marine Technology) in the United Kingdom. Designed for commercial vessels, tugs, workboats, and coastal ships, the system utilizes the heavy-duty Walker P296 combined masthead sensor array—featuring a 3-cup anemometer for speed and a balanced wind vane for direction.
The P296 masthead sensor converts mechanical rotation into digital serial data right at the mast head, transmitting real-time NMEA 0183 signals directly to the bridge. On the bridge, the Walker P1249 DIN 144 indicator provides clear digital readouts of relative wind speed alongside a simulated analog circular display for wind direction using high-resolution OLED technology. The system can also be expanded with an optional P1066 True Wind Interface Unit to calculate true wind parameters using vessel speed and heading inputs.
