The Unicont MDU-102 NMEA Buffer Unit (also classified as an Amplifier-Multiplier) is a marine-grade data distribution hub designed to duplicate NMEA 0183 ($IEC\ 61162-1 / 61162-2$) serial sentences safely across multiple bridge repeaters.
By utilizing dynamic optoisolated inputs and isolated output pathways, it prevents fatal ground loops, protects sensitive navigation processors from cross-talk, and serves as an intelligent failsafe matrix.
Operational Routing Modes
Using the internal PCB DIP-Switch (S1) blocks, the MDU-102 can be configured into three distinct operational profiles:

Active Channel Auto-Selection (Failover Mode): The unit prioritizes the primary input channel (CH1). If the master sensor breaks down or fails to transmit data, the MDU-102 waits 3 seconds and automatically switches over to the standby input channel (CH2). Once CH1 recovers, the unit snaps distribution seamlessly back to the primary line.

Checksum Control Option: A variation of failover mode where the internal micro-controller parses and evaluates incoming NMEA 0183 checksum blocks on CH1. If it registers corrupted sentence strings or validation mismatches, it automatically routes the system outputs over to CH2 within 3 seconds.

Independent Dual Multiplier Mode (2 * 4Split): Splitting the internal electronics down the middle, CH1 distributes strictly to the four output channels in Group A, while CH2 feeds the four output channels in Group B. This turns the unit into two completely separate $1 \times 4$ multipliers inside a single case.
