The YDK Technologies (formerly Yokogawa Denshi Kiki) EML500 is an IMO-compliant electromagnetic speed log system widely installed across commercial fleets, container ships, and tankers. Utilizing Faraday’s law of induction, it delivers continuous, real-time Speed Through Water (STW) and distance tracking without moving parts protruding from the hull.
EML500-S (Single-Axis): Measures longitudinal speed through water (ahead and astern).
EML500-D (Dual-Axis): Measures longitudinal (ahead/astern) and transversal (port/starboard) speeds to assist in maneuvering and berthing operations.
EML500-HV: High-speed vessel variation with specialized sensor calibration curves.
No Moving Mechanical Parts: Operates flush with the hull boundary layer, eliminating physical impellers or paddles that can jam or wear out.
Multi-Segment Speed Calibration: Features linearizer calibration logic to offset hydrodynamic boundary-layer turbulence around different hull geometries.
Redundancy & Fail-Safe Integration: Built-in self-diagnostic routines with automatic fail-over to emergency 24 V DC power in the event of main AC bus failure.
Flexible Display Distribution: Supports multiple remote digital and analog speed indicators on the bridge wings, steering gear room, and engine control room (ECR).
