The ONWA KM-Router is a specialized marine Wi-Fi and Ethernet router designed to serve as the central communication hub for a vessel’s navigation network. Unlike a standard home router, it includes a serial-to-network converter, allowing it to bridge traditional NMEA 0183 data from sensors (like GPS or AIS) onto a wireless or wired network for viewing on tablets, phones, or PCs.
The KM-Router is engineered for the marine environment with a wide input voltage range and basic water protection. Its primary role is to enable network sharing across different marine devices, including those from other brands. It is commonly used to connect multiple ONWA Multi-Function Displays (MFDs) to share Radar and Sonar data across the entire boat.
-
Multi-Function Gateway: Acts as a standard Wi-Fi/Ethernet router while simultaneously converting serial signals (NMEA) to network packets.
-
Data Sharing: Enables the “Radar Share” and “Sonar Share” features on ONWA KM-series plotters, allowing any unit in the network to control and view the radar antenna.
-
Mobile Integration: Allows users to send NMEA data to mobile apps like Navionics Boating on iPads or smartphones.
