The ONWA KC-2W is a specialized bi-directional gateway designed to bridge the gap between two different generations of marine data protocols: NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 (N2K). This allows older legacy sensors to communicate with modern multi-function displays (MFDs) and vice versa.
The KC-2W serves as a “translator” for your vessel’s network. It is particularly useful if you have a newer NMEA 2000 chartplotter but want to keep your existing NMEA 0183 sensors (like a depth sounder, wind sensor, or older GPS antenna).
-
Bi-Directional Conversion: It can take NMEA 0183 sentences and convert them into NMEA 2000 PGNs, or take NMEA 2000 data and output it as NMEA 0183 sentences.
-
Plug-and-Play N2K: It features a standard NMEA 2000 “Micro-C” drop cable for easy connection to your backbone.
-
Galvanic Isolation: The unit provides electrical isolation between the two networks, preventing ground loops and protecting your expensive electronics from power surges.
