The Simrad MGL-4 is a professional-grade DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) Antenna primarily used in commercial maritime applications. It is a dual-purpose “smart” antenna that combines a GPS receiver with a Beacon receiver to provide highly accurate, corrected positioning data.
Compatibility & Replacement
The MGL-4 was widely used with the following systems:
-
Simrad/MX Marine: CX44, CX54, CA, CE, and SP series Multi-Function Displays.
-
Saab: R4 DGPS Navigation Sensors.
Note on Obsolescence: The MGL-4 has been largely succeeded by the Simrad MX521B and the MXB5 patch antenna. If your MGL-4 fails, the MXB5 is often cited as the direct electronic replacement, though you may need to verify cable connector compatibility.
