A bearing clearance gauge tape used to check oil clearances between crankshaft journals and engine bearings before final assembly.
Yellow strips measure a range of approximately 0.009″–0.020″ (0.23–0.50 mm) once compressed between surfaces.
Sold as 12 handy strips with scales printed in inches and millimeters — good for checking those larger clearances (e.g., mains or big-end clearances).
Imperial: 0.009 inch → 0.020 inch
Metric: ~0.23 mm → ~0.50 mm
Strip Length: ~11 inches (280 mm) per strip (standard length for most Clevite Plastigage strips)
Used for main and rod bearing oil clearance checks during rebuild or engine assembly.
Place the strip on bearing journal, install bearing cap, torque to spec, then remove and compare crushed width to the printed scale to read clearance.
