The JRC JUE‑251 is a maritime Inmarsat FleetBroadband 250 terminal combining a compact, two‑axis stabilized above‑deck antenna unit (ADU) with an integrated communication earth station. It delivers simultaneous voice and broadband data services—supporting standard IP up to 284 kbps and streaming IP up to 128 kbps—along with SMS capability. The ADU features a flat‑panel or low‑profile antenna enclosure, right‑hand circular polarization, and a beamwidth of approximately 40° (3 dB). Designed to operate across the L‑band, it transmits in 1626.5–1660.5 MHz (and extended 1668.0–1675.0 MHz) and receives in 1518.0–1559.0 MHz. Power is supplied via DC 21.6–31.2 V, with the system drawing less than 160 W under normal load. The terminal supports PoE to attached devices (up to 32 W total). The mechanical design is rugged—adept at withstanding marine environments, with ADU protection rated at IP56 and BDU (below‑deck unit) at IP22. The system is engineered to function under ship motion (roll ±30°, pitch ±10°, yaw ±8°, and heave/surge/sway) and harsh weather loads (icing up to 25 mm, precipitation 100 mm/hr, wind up to 100 knots). The ADU itself weighs approximately 4.7 kg, while the BDU weighs about 4.5 kg. Additional features include a web interface for system management, remote maintenance (RMS), satellite blockage registration (up to 6 blocked zones, e.g. funnel or masts), optional voice distress (non‑SOLAS), multiple Ethernet/VoIP/telephony interfaces, and a single coaxial cable link between ADU and BDU to simplify installation.
