The RU-9760A MIC Assembly is a microwave transmission module installed inside the antenna/transceiver unit (RSB-098 series) of the radar. It forms part of the RF front-end chain that handles microwave energy between the magnetron transmitter and the antenna waveguide system.

Technical Specification

1. Function in the Radar System

The MIC (Microwave Integrated Circuit / Microwave Interface Circuit) assembly performs several microwave-path tasks:

  • Routes the high-power microwave signal from the magnetron to the antenna.
  • Protects the receiver from the transmitter pulse using limiter circuits.
  • Directs the reflected radar echoes from the antenna to the receiver stage.
  • Ensures proper impedance matching and isolation in the RF path.

This assembly is located behind the antenna unit plate together with components like the circulator, diode limiter, and motor system.

2. Position in the Radar RF Chain

Typical signal path in the FAR-2837S radar antenna unit:

  1. Trigger and modulator circuits generate HV pulse
  2. Magnetron produces microwave energy
  3. Pulse transformer conditions the pulse
  4. RU-9760A MIC Assembly handles microwave routing
  5. Circulator and TR limiter protect receiver
  6. Waveguide sends signal to antenna
  7. Echo signals return to receiver front end

The MIC assembly therefore acts as a microwave interface between transmitter, antenna, and receiver subsystems.

3. Main Components in the Assembly

The RU-9760A module normally includes:

  • Microwave waveguide section
  • RF coupling network
  • Microwave diode limiter interface
  • Mechanical mounting plate and connectors
  • Interface points for circulator and antenna waveguide

These components are designed for S-band radar frequencies (~3 GHz) used by the FAR-2837S radar.

4. Electrical / RF Characteristics (Typical)

  • Operating band: S-Band (~3050 MHz)
  • Radar transmitter power: ≈ 30 kW peak
  • Compatible antenna unit: RSB-098/099/100/101/102 series
  • Used with magnetron type MG5223F and related RF boards in the system.
