The KA-GC9A is designed to be the “source of truth” for navigation systems that require high-speed heading updates. It is the primary sensor for Autopilots (like the KAP-866), Radar Overlay (aligning radar images onto a chart), and MARPA target tracking.
Inside its waterproof housing, it fuses data from 3-axis magnetometers, 3-axis gyroscopes, and 3-axis accelerometers using a proprietary algorithm. This results in a “real-time” response rate that traditional fluxgate compasses cannot match.
