The IR361 acts as a “slave” display for a master Gyrocompass or GPS Compass. It decodes NMEA 0183 heading messages (specifically $HDT) and provides both the exact heading and the ship’s turning momentum.³

• Dual Display System: Features a 4-digit LED display for the heading (000.0° to 359.9°) and a surrounding circle of 30 dual-color LEDs to indicate ROT.

• Intuitive ROT Visuals: * Green LEDs: Light up in sequence when the vessel turns to Starboard.⁵

   

• Red LEDs: Light up in sequence when the vessel turns to Port.

• Adaptive Speed: The rotation speed of the LEDs increases as the vessel’s rate of turn increases (⁶$1^\circ/s = 6 \text{ steps/s}$).⁷

• Built-in Safety: If the NMEA signal is lost for more than 15 seconds, the display shows ---- and the ROT lights extinguish to alert the navigator.

• Flexible Installation: Comes with a bracket for table/ceiling mounting, but can be flush-mounted into a console.
